COMPETITION RULES

1.- ORGANIZER: CEVISAMA, International Exhibition for Architectural Ceramics, Bathroom and Kitchen Furnishings, Raw Materials, Glazes, Frits and Machinery.

2.- COMPETITION VENUE: FERIA VALENCIA.

3.- DATES OF EVENT: 10th – 13th February 2009.

4.- OBJECTIVE: Ceramic products used for architecture and meet the following criteria: the products should be innovative in terms of shape, aesthetics or function, should offer enhanced decorative potential, be good value for money and be produced by a process that is environmentally friendly.

5.- CONTESTANTS: The competition is open to students enrolled at spanish and international schools of design, fine arts, architecture and engineering and to postgraduate and masters students. This category of the competition is also open to students who have graduated within the two years prior to the competition. Individuals or teams may submit entries in this category in one or several areas of specialist design or degree subject.

6.- PRIZES:Three prizes will be awarded:
A 1st prize of 3,600 €
A 2nd prize of 2,400 €
A 3rd prize of 1,200 €

7.- JURY: The Jury will be appointed by CEVISAMA’s Organising Committee and will be totally independent of said Committee. The Jury will rule on the acceptability of items entered by means of a process of pre-selection that will assess compliance with the competition’s conditions if entry. The Jury will award the prizes by unanimous or majority vote. The Jury’s decision will be final. The Jury will give its reasons for awarding each of the prizes. The Jury may decide not to award one or more of the prizes if it feels that the designs submitted are not of sufficient merit. Likewise, the Jury will take particular care to award prizes to items that are likely to be taken forward to industrial production.

8.- APPLICATIONS FOR ENTRY: The closing date for receipt of applications to enter the competition is 10th December 2008. Applications must be made on the form that follows these Rules and which should be returned to the CEVISAMA offices.

9.- CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF ITEMS: This will be 14th January 2009 and items should be sent to FERIA VALENCIA/CEVISAMA. Where items are delivered in person, delivery must be made on Monday 14th January 2009 (between 10 am and 1.30 pm or 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm), to the storage area of Pavilion 6B.

10.- PRESENTATION: Entries should be presented as two 100 x 70 cm panels mounted on 5mm thick artboard. And optionally, although it scores points, along with a mock-upof the item on a 1:1 scale. Entries should be accompanied by a brief Technical Specification and Description created as a Word document no longer than one A4 page.

11.- DESPATCH AND COLLECTION: Items being sent should be packaged appropriately and the sender’s full details along with the title of the work should be included on the outside of the packaging. Inside the package the sender should include an envelope stating the title of the work and the sender’s details, a sworn statement that the work is the contestant’s own and has not been entered for any other competition prior to the current Cevisama, and a note describing the item.
Items should be collected between 24th and 25th February 2009 and between the hours of 10 am and 1.30 pm or 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm, from the storage area of Pavilion 6B. Any items not collected during these times will be deemed to be unwanted by the contestant and will be disposed of.
Items will be sent back to contestants from outside the Comunidad Valenciana only, during the month following the end of the competition and expenses paid except for insurance and Customs charges in the sender’s country.

12.- EXHIBITION: The items entered for the competition will be exhibited during CEVISAMA (10-13 February) in one of the venue’s pavilions, except for any items as may be withdrawn by the Jury at the pre-selection stage, with the Jury’s decision in this regard being announced prior to Cevisama opening. The entries winning prize-money will remain the property of Feria Valencia for display purposes only with the rights to deriving any profit from them remaining entirely with the contestant. The prize-winning entries may be exhibited at Cevisama in subsequent years.

13.- PUBLICITY: The results of the Competition will be publicised as widely as possible amongst the trade press and those manufacturers that might be interested in the work entered.

14.- QUERIES: All queries regarding these Rules should be addressed to the CEVISAMA offices. FERIA VALENCIA does not accept responsibility for any loss or breakage sustained by any item during transportation or whilst the item is at the exhibition venue.
